Welcome to the Peaceful Mind Podcast, a place for creating the peace of mind you need to be the best mom you were created by God to be. If you want to bring more balance, more joy, and more peace to your motherhood, This is the place for you. I'm your host, certified life coach and Catholic mom, Danielle Thienel.
In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, let's get started.
Hello everyone, and thank you for being here. I am back today with another episode to help you with your time management. Yep. Another one. I have several in my catalog, but [00:01:00] this is also episode 262. So sometimes episodes, prior episodes, if you're new, especially are ones that you don't know exist or you haven't gone back to.
And what I have found in my coaching practice is that all the things that I share bears repeating. Our brains are more wired to forget. And so. I decided I want to do another reminder. The last one that focused on time management was let's see, several weeks ago. Let me see maybe back a few months ago, but it was announcing my new book that was all about time management.
It's called the Divine Time Solution. How to have more peace, patience and productivity in your busy mom life. It's a faith based approach to time management. And today I think this is going to be like a just a little bit of an overlap, but it's going to be a shorter, [00:02:00] more can kind of streamline of what I think are five really effective time management hacks for moms that will be beneficial to you.
So I also really encourage you to listen to that episode as well. And. Maybe if you haven't purchased the book, you'll be compelled to do so today. Because of course I go into more depth about all of these things that will be so helpful for your time management. And I'm gonna I know I have the word hacks in the title.
It's something that people understand and get, right? And sometimes I have to come up with a different name that, that is really saying my tips for you, my strategies to give you, it's all interchangeable. Really what the hack word means is that if you utilize these concepts, these strategies, if you take action and what I'm going to [00:03:00] present for you today, you will absolutely expand your amount of time that you have.
Okay, I mean, really, in the truth of it all, we all only have a finite amount of time, but how you then begin to feel about your time more on top of it, more in control, you're gonna feel just more peace about it. And I put five effective ones because I do believe that what I've offered in written in my book, the Divine Time Solution.
And what I'm really going to summarize and give you today, these are effective. These are long lasting. These are things that you want to be something you build the skill in repeating and doing and really getting good at these things. Okay. So. I discovered that the real change in how we [00:04:00] manage our time starts from within.
Our society and everything looks to the outside. If only you got this app and this reminder and this planner, right, then, then you would be able to have better time management skills. I want you to know that it, the real effective way. focus on managing your time better is in needing internal shifts. And today I'm going to share five proven hacks, proven strategies, proven tips that will help you take back control of your schedule.
So the first strategy is I want to mention is to shift how you think about time itself. Many of us have developed in like a adversarial relationship with time. I just visualize us battling, fighting. We blame it, right? [00:05:00] We fight against it. We feel like it's always working against us. But time, in reality, is actually a beautiful gift from God.
And when we view it this way, everything changes for the better. Instead of saying, I don't have enough time, you want to try to view time as abundant and see yourself as capable of managing it well. Like do that visualization. If you were already on top of it, controlling it, manage it well, when, if you weren't behind, if you had plenty of it, how would you then be thinking and feeling and what would you be doing differently than you're doing now?
That's what you want to focus on putting into your reality now. And then that, in itself, is going to be the [00:06:00] necessary internal shift that will make it so effective, right? It creates this one thing alone, this first strategy to shift how you think about time itself is the foundation for all the other time management strategies in order for them to work well.
The second strategy, a second hack I want to identify and eliminate what I call time bombs in your life. These are the things that consistently derail your schedule. And this is a list of what I've curated to be the number one time bombs that I see the majority of my clients that have that these are their time bombs, procrastination, indecision, distractions and interruptions, stress and overwhelm, having relaxed deadlines, [00:07:00] perfectionism, people pleasing, fatigue, exhaustion, and then what I call time versus money, when you realize that sometimes in order to have more time, you can pay for things to actually buy yourself time. So do you resonate?
Do you have any of these time bombs? When I, as I listed, were you like, Oh yeah, that's me. Excellent. If you want to have effective time management, you kind of have to become really cozy in knowing which one of these are your, that you default to, because that's the only way we can get some change. Some positive change is to first identify it.
So by becoming aware of your patterns, of your time bombs and then consciously choosing different responses regarding them because the ones that you're [00:08:00] choosing around them right now aren't working. You can then prevent them from sabotaging your time management goals. Okay. The third hack is we need to understand that saying no is actually okay.
Also saying yes. Okay. So when we say no, you're actually saying yes to what matters most. I'm always wanting my moms to have a shift in that word like saying no. So this comes down to making strong decisions for yourself based on what your current mission is. and your current season of motherhood. So when we try to do everything, we end up doing nothing.
Well, I work with my clients to help them see this, to see that choosing what not to do is just as important as choosing what to do. Right. And whenever we say yes to something, we are saying [00:09:00] no to something else. And whenever we're saying no to something, we're saying yes to something, but we want to know that we are saying the right yes and no.
That will allow us to focus on and get the goals we have in the things that are really important that matter to us. us in our family life right now, wherever we are, again, in our motherhood. The fourth strategy is about creating what I call divine order in your day. This means we put first things first.
We start with God, Then yourself, then your family, and then the other commitments. Many moms, we try to pour from an empty cup, but when we honor this divine order, and I want to do a little caveat here and say, and it doesn't take a lot of time to do this, right? God knows your heart. He knows what you have.
Any [00:10:00] kind of simple. It can, it can be short as well a time and attention you put towards him at the beginning of your day, it will last. order the rest of your day. And what in a divine order, everything will just flow more smoothly. And the fifth and final strategy, I told you, I was going to make this one a little bit more short and condense as a great reminder.
And that is to stop treating yourself like a robot. This might sound simple, but it is profound. You and me and I. All of us humans, we are not machines. We're not machines that can run continuously without rest or renewal. So building in regular pauses, right? For your self care, for that reflection time, for things that kind of light you up, for meeting friends.
This is not [00:11:00] selfish. It's essential for managing your time effectively. And what I see happen is we think that we can do so much without rest. And it's like, It's like a robot can do that, right? It's programmed to do that, or it's given the electrical capabilities to do that, but we aren't. God made day and night, and he programmed us to sleep, right?
So, so if you want to be able to use your time wisely, You have to be fulfilling this basic need, right, of rest and rejuvenation to your physical life, your mental life, your emotional life, spiritual life. It's essential for managing your time effectively. I. I just, I know I repeat this, but I, I see this day in and day out with my coaching clients when they implement the [00:12:00] strategies that I'm giving you here, especially focusing on the internal shift first.
That's the key, everyone. That is the secret sauce. You can work all day at rearranging stuff on the outside. And you could still find yourself back in the same stuck place feeling behind because the most essential thing isn't changed first. And that is your relationship with time, that internal thought system, perspective on time, along with these other strategies that I've mentioned.
You will stop feeling overwhelmed. And you'll start feeling more in control of your days and you want that mom as I know it. I wanted that. I wanted that desperately before coaching and before I focused on myself and really cared for myself and learned how to take [00:13:00] control of this God given gift of my brain.
I was so discouraged and so frustrated and so exhausted and really just kind of defeated The type of control. Of course, along with the ultimate control from God, you were partners in this, right? There is a, there is some control that we need to take care of in our lives. That's how God made it. So when you do, everything changes for the better.
You, you kind of like high speed train into your goals. It goes a lot smoother and that is what I wanted to talk to you about with time management here. I, I want you, maybe you're wondering which of these strategies [00:14:00] to start with. And I encourage you to just pick one that I mentioned today that resonated most with your current situation and you can listen to it again or you can, I'll have it in the show notes where you can purchase the book.
I have it available where you can buy it in paperback straight up or for just a few dollars, you can have the digital version and the audio version. And. It is really going to get, at least you're going to get that foundational knowledge and start to get those internal shifts right away when you read or listen to it.
And remember, as everything, we're never going to be perfect at this. Yes, I even wrote a book on it and I still don't manage my time well sometimes. Okay. It's about making progress. It's about finding more peace in your days. It is what this podcast mission was set out to do, to spread peace. And help moms have [00:15:00] more peace of mind in your days.
Okay, so that's what I wanted to offer you today for those five top minute time management hacks. And let me just like recap them really quick. Okay. The first one is to shift how you think about your time itself. The second one is to identify and eliminate your time bombs. Third is to understand and be on to yourself about what's really happening when you say no and yes to things.
Then the fourth one is creating a divine order in your day. Go to him first, put him first. In a small amount of time, as much time as you can, and it will help the rest of your time management for the day and the fifth one is to stop treating yourself like a robot to lean into the humanness that you are, and then that will also [00:16:00] help organize your time, because if you spend more of that resting and rejuvenating, I promise you in the times that That is going to help you be more productive in all the things that you decide you want to get done.
