In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, let's get started.
Hi everyone. Welcome back to the podcast. And who here listening does not want more peace of mind around their house and what it looks like and how organized it is and what the state of, of clutter and how fast you can find things and just the joy of what it brings. When you look around in your home, is it a place of like a sanctuary or are you surrounded by things that you adore?
Does it make you happy to walk into certain [00:01:00] rooms? And if it doesn't, then this episode is going to be for you because I am going to help you with three secrets to a more organized home, and they're not going to be the conventional things that you're thinking of. I'm going to be coming from a different angle with this episode, which is good, right?
Because that is what we want to do when and anytime we find ourselves not organized. Achieving some goals we want in this case, you know, the organization of our home we usually our brain defaults to what is normally the go to things that you hear in society and daily life over and over again.
And I even have done a couple organizing episodes already on the podcast. So you want to make sure if this is something that you've been challenged with or struggling with right now to go back and do a search and find out what those what those episodes offer. But [00:02:00] today I want to be able to talk about these three secrets that you can just try out and whichever one like resonates with you that might feel doable, easy that you think that you've been challenged before by this subject of organizing.
I mean, maybe all three would be something you want to tackle, but I'm going to urge you to just try out one of them, set kind of a time limit for yourself. This is always so good for our brains to actually decide when we are going to achieve this goal by. So, let's just dive in and start with the first secret to organize your home.
And that is to embrace what I call micro organizing moments. I love to organize things. I do believe that this is one of the things that you know, kind of makes us a little superpower for myself. I light up [00:03:00] with cleaning out things and I understand that not everybody has this.
But when I was, I'm going to do the outline for today's episode I asked, what do I do that makes it so easy and simple and fun for me to stay organized? And this one came up first. I go back and see how I do it and how I do that is I work in micro organizing moments into my day. So what I want to encourage you to do is to identify and start utilizing brief and kind of often overlooked moments throughout your day that are available for you to organize something.
It could be as simple as organizing one drawer while waiting for your coffee to brew or sorting through the mail during a commercial break. I do this when I am organizing, like right now my daughter [00:04:00] has left for college and I am actually going into like her vanity area where she already, she told me that one of the things when she was packing up that she left is that there was so many like half bottles, empty, like lotions, kind of, there's some like nail polish things in there that are all over.
And she literally was like, mom didn't have time to go through it kind of thing. So I can like bop up to her room and I just brought a small trash bag with me and I just did a really quick pass at some of those containers, the things that were empty. And I utilize just yesterday, some of those micro organizing moments.
The idea for this is to you for you bit. Integrate organization, like into your daily life without having to set aside large blocks of time, which I know that this is one of the [00:05:00] reasons that keeps a lot of my, my clients when we're talking about organization from even starting because it's really daunting and frustrating.
It's very unrealistic for us busy moms, right? To think that we will have a time when we can set aside such a chunk of time to handle the whole of our organizing needs. So when you practice micro organizing moments, this kind of method, it not only takes the task that at hand to it makes it feel less overwhelming, but it also gradually builds a habit of organization that fits seamlessly into your already existing routines.
And that will then promote this new sense of control and accomplishment. And I always love when that happens. Cause mama's when we feel accomplished in like a small thing, that snowball effect, like your brain is always [00:06:00] like, okay, this feels good. What else could we, that seems easy that we could tackle right now.
As I'm sitting here at my office desk, I'm looking over to what used to be my husband's office desk too. We have two desks in here, but because I you know, the way I work on zoom and coaching my clients, I need the privacy. And so he no longer utilizes this desk, but I do know that top drawer became something where we have thrown in all kinds of like electronic wires and there's paperclips in there and the stapler. And there's just like, I think there's even some old like electronic items in there, but I'm like, I already, by just talking about this micro organizing moments, I'm like, yes, you know, when I have my half hour break today for my lunch, which doesn't usually take that long.
I'm like, okay. Thank you. long that I don't need the full half an hour. And so I'm like, yes, that is [00:07:00] something that I can like walk my talk here on the episode. I want to grab a bag, open up, do some sorting, throw away the things we don't need, tighten up the drawer, make it look nice. And then, yeah, I'll probably have to go to my husband and say, yeah, do we need this?
Are these something we can give away? Is this gonna be utilized? So look how even just I am talking about and, and putting my mind towards and thinking about what are some of the other things that I want to like micro organize. And I could just literally write down the list of, okay, office drawer, finish out daughter's drawers. Right? It could be that I want to do a certain cabinet in the mud room or kitchen. It really does add up these micro organizing moments. So that is the secret number one I wanted to reveal to you.
The second one we're going to [00:08:00] talk about is when you can focus on organizational routines instead of organizational goals. So what comes to mind when I'm talking about this is like when I think about like the garage . That's a lot of times my clients are like, you know, I have this big project, I want to organize the garage, but instead a secret could be to shift the perspective from seeing the organization as, as big as a one time one and done project and instead develop small sustainable routines.
This is just a, this is a little different than secret number one where I'm asking you to find micro moments in your day to organize, but this one, so for instance, instead of planning a full day, right, to organize the kitchen, you can incorporate a five minute daily routine of decluttering one part of the kitchen, but this, your routine could be daily.
I know that a lot of people think [00:09:00] about like when they clean out or clean their house as like a weekly routine, but it is about you establishing something because when we organize, there is a maintenance to it. Like, what do you want to work in for yourself that is actually a routine? Do we on Saturdays, like once a month go into the garage?
And either, you know, take a garbage bag or shift things around, or is that just literally taking, I know in my garage, I about once a month go down there and we like, you know, break down some recycling boxes. My husband will, I'll have done a pile along the month. And anytime I collect something that needs to go to the charity or the Goodwill, I put it in this special place in the garage.
But then once a month, it's a routine of him taking that pile and going and dropping it [00:10:00] off to the Goodwill. And then while that happens, I also take the broom and all the like leaves that have come into the garage or just you know, just the things that fall on the floor. I'll I will do a big sweep.
And just those two things are a routine for us where it's routine for me to build the pile to go to Goodwill, for him to have the monthly, like it's time to go, and then me sweep. And so we don't think about keeping the garage as a like organized as a project, we've shifted our perspective to seeing how we can stay organized and it'd be less of a project, but instead develop more small, sustainable routines.
So you could clear out like shelves in the pantry in your kitchen every, week or once a month, or maybe it's something like every six months or once a year, that routine of organizing your [00:11:00] spaces. Right? And sometimes I just want to throw this out for you all to open up sometimes you can make huge progress.
And literally the time it takes to boil water yet, our brain keeps us from the piece we want in staying organized because we think it's telling us that organizing is hard and that it takes a huge focus and it takes setting a whole day or a weekend. And so that keeps us stuck and stops us from organizing at all.
When you focus on organizational routines and not projects as, this secret is asking you to do, then what this does is it shifts your approach, right? It shifts your approach on maintaining that you are continuously organizing spaces and this prevents the buildup of clutter. So this one is, it's more about maintaining [00:12:00] order through the little efforts rather than like periodic major overhauls, which is going to be more sustainable and less stressful for you.
Okay. The last secret to a more organized home that may be like well, I know that it is coming from the more unconventional side when you think about organizing and it is coming more to hitting you from the mental and emotional side, which of course is how we acquire and maintain our peace of mind.
And that is for you to organize for your energy. Not just the efficiency that organizing brings you. So what I mean by this, this concept that I want to introduce you to is for, you to be guided to organize your home in a way that will maximize your energy in the day. This would involve you organizing spaces based on how you use them [00:13:00] and the energy that you want to foster from these spaces.
So for example, can you create a calming clutter free little nook where you might start your morning routine with some prayer books that are there and your cup of coffee, maybe a little candle, right? Maybe you have, I know this is where I have built into my bedroom, a nook and my gratitude journal and devotionals sit there and I have a coaster there that's ready for my morning coffee.
And that is where I have a pad of paper where I can get down a thought download or plan out my day. And setting up like this designated space, right? That is either a calm morning starter, or perhaps you have a little nook or zone that is like your wind down zone at the end of the evening that's cozy and [00:14:00] inviting for evening time.
What I'm, what I'm proposing here. Is that, you know, how you feel matters so much. And I believe that if you have, if you can focus on organizing at first, a space where you can go to either beginning a day, end of day, and that gets you energetically into a space where you're feeling better. Better than you are going to like, just by you going to that space, you are going to showing you, you are organizing your day by even having the routine of going there.
Ultimately you in this space is going to fill you up, light you up, have you be more calm and then. From there, the more organized your mind is, the more organized of how you feel, then I guarantee that the rest of your day, the actions and the outcome of an organized [00:15:00] home will be kind of birthed from that more naturally.
So, this strategy in creating an environment for you that not only looks organized, but also feels uplifting and energizing, it will support you psychologically. Like it's going to just be there. Increase your wellbeing. It will boost your motivation and your productivity because you are aligning a physical space with your emotional needs.
When this comes to mind, I can think that maybe some of you moms or listeners will hear me say this and just be like still focusing on, well, that's like not enough. Like my whole house needs an overhaul and just what is one little nook going to do? But really like picturing I'm picturing this one nook and every time you like walk by it or see it, that it gives you that, like just noticing it gives you that sense of peace, like, oh, I love this place or look how [00:16:00] clutter free that is, or that's my special kind of place.
And I mean, even if you have to like literally shut the doors to the rooms that are packed and where you don't really have it all organized yet. And you can like not see them, but you can open up to having a small place that is organized. It will support you better. It will help your wellbeing. And again, I know you moms want to have your motivation boosted, your productivity boost boosted.
But this third secret of focusing on organizing your energy. Making that be a priority, because if I can get you feeling better and you can focus on that being your goal, then you will have the energy to take on an organizing routine or like small little things.
Again, [00:17:00] micro organizing moment s that number one secret when your energy is there, you're going to want to do that even more. Okay. So what I'm offering you today is by implementing these three secrets where you can see organization is manageable, where you can integrate part of your daily life rather than the overwhelming chore.
And these strategies, they focus on your mindset. That's where the benefit comes and your emotional life, like feeling better. And that is going to lead to you actually applying and getting into action of organizing your home more. So. I hope this makes you a little bit excited, but most of all empowered, right?
You can do this mamas. You can do these small micro organizing moments. You can focus on routines and not projects and you can [00:18:00] organize your energy in order to help propel you into a more organized homes. So that's what I have for you today, and I welcome any kind of feedback that you have.
