If you want to bring more balance, more joy, and more peace to your motherhood, this is the place for you. I'm your host, Certified Life Coach at Catholic Mom, Danielle Thienel
In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, let's get started. Hey everyone, so happy to have you here. Happy New Year as well. When this This episode is being released. It is the beginning of 2024. So if you [00:01:00] are listening in real time, again, Happy New Year. Now for the last few years on the Peaceful Mind Podcast, every new year, I have begun with an episode that is called happy, healthy, and holy in the new year.
There was a first version, a 2. 0 version and a 3. 0 version. So I want to invite you to scroll through the list of episodes. We are over 200 now and go back and find and re listen to those particular episodes. They all were a little different. And I think that they were coming from my mindset of, of helping you in the new year find ways to be happy, healthy, and holy, and to focus on that for the coming year. But this year, I've decided that I am just going to focus on the happy part. And [00:02:00] so, I've titled this, How to Be a Happy Person. And I am just going to pick one kind of like universal philosophy behind how to be a happy person.
I know that there are more, there are other ways, but this is the way that I just wanted to bring to you. And it is kind of marrying that holy part, because I want to say that in order to be a happy person, or one way that I want to invite you to. The second way to be a happy person is to align yourself with God's rhythm.
Being in God's rhythm means living in harmony with God's divine plan and purpose for your life. And what is that? It really is What you choose it to be that aligns for you with [00:03:00] the principles of your faith, with the principles of love and compassion. And it involves aligning your actions and your thoughts and just your values with those principles.
And I want to just start out by giving you like 10 activities. That busy moms can take to bring you closer to your faith and purpose, which will create joy that is in alignment with God's rhythm. Therefore, it's going to create you being a happy person. And so number one is to attend mass, if you are of the Catholic faith, or attend your worship services.
By regularly participating in your religious faith [00:04:00] services, it will allow you to strengthen your faith. You're going to connect with community and you're going to find spiritual inspiration and this will lead you to be being a happy person. Number two is to engage in some kind of activity That is of service to others.
This could be volunteering, or it literally could you being bringing consciousness as a busy mom, that you are in service as you are doing your daily tasks to help your family. When you come from not the place of overwhelm or dread or having to get things done, but you are. Literally thinking that you are engaging in this work for the good of someone else.
It just adds meaning [00:05:00] and it is a way for you to live out your faith. It's a way for you to serve others, which does equate to happiness and joy. And it's definitely aligned in God's rhythm to be in service. The third activity that you can do is to study the Gospels, study the Bible, just study any of your, the sacred text that is aligned with your faith.
When you dedicate time to studying and reflecting upon them, it will deepen your understanding of your faith. And that is also aligning with God's rhythm, and it is also creating a, a joy within you. The next activity I can invite you to take part in is like family devotions, incorporating [00:06:00] some kind of devotional activity, whether it is grace before meals
or going somewhere together as a family to be together. It is asking and engaging in questions about what's going on in their life or how they're feeling about their, their faith. Maybe it's reading scripture together, just some kind of activity with family members in a way that I know will bring you joy because being together with your family and doing a faith activity is definitely in line with God's rhythm.
Acts of kindness is next. When we practice acts of kindness and charity, both within your family and in your community, but I want to add acts of kindness to yourself. This is a way of [00:07:00] living out the teachings of your faith. And Aligning with God and creating a happy person, which is you. And I want, I always am telling my clients, right?
I'm saying that you being kind to yourself, I will say like, what? What, in this situation that's difficult for you, or you're quote, beating yourself up about it, I would, I'm always like, what would Jesus say if you two were like sitting down on a bench, just talking, like, what would he say to you? What act of kindness can you say or do to yourself?
And then of course, for others, the next is for you to have an activity that would engage you being with nature. Because God's rhythm is all over nature, [00:08:00] right? This is his creation. And so there are sounds and there are things to see and feel like the wind. And you just spend time in nature, whether it's a walk in the park or a hike in the mountains.
For me, it. It, I can even feel like in nature when I'm out on my screen porch. This summer I've seen the, I saw hawks and then this fall I'm just engaging in the colors of the trees and I can just hear the birds. And it is definitely when you connect with the beauty of God's creation, you will, you will find that you're having moments of contemplation and it will feel like you are in line with God's rhythm.
And this will bring you joy. This will create you being a happy person if you add more of this to your life. [00:09:00] The next action we could take is to do a gratitude journal. Regularly reflecting and expressing gratitude for the blessings in your life will help you foster a positive and thankful mindset.
And when we look at the blessings that we believe were given to us for God, we are in rhythm with Him. And this will create joy for us. I want to offer the next one as something that it's, I don't think it's something we do often enough, but if there is a chance in your church or in your community where you could take some kind of retreat with my own daughter's high school that they attended it is run by the Dominican sisters and they have a retreat house and every year there's a mom's retreat.
And it makes me so happy. It fills me up so much. So I just wanted to invite if you can have some [00:10:00] kind of spiritual getaway and connect there with God and gain some clarity. I think that is a wonderful choice to have and will definitely be part of the formula for how to be a happy person is you will get into God's rhythm.
You can join some faith based groups doing a study group, a prayer circle, a book club, and I definitely can't leave out my group life coaching program, which is would have you being part of a faith based group with the work that we're doing in there. This is where you engage in discussions, share your experiences with like minded individuals and get coached and have coaching to help you navigate.
All that goes along with being a busy mom. And the last one on this kind of like practical actions to take [00:11:00] to align yourself with God's rhythm, which will innately create joy for you and for you to be a happier person, is to practice forgiveness. If you work on forgiving others and forgiving yourself, right?
We're not perfect human beings and we've made mistakes. And when you have forgiveness in your life, it is a fundamental aspect that will bring you inner peace and healing and happiness. So by engaging in, in one of these activities, Or several of them that I mentioned, you will cultivate a deeper connection with yourself, with your soul, and it will bring you into harmony with God's rhythm.
And that harmony with God's rhythm equals happiness. You will just simply enjoy greater joy in your daily life. So [00:12:00] those are some activities. That you can embark on to be a happier person and if at this beginning of this new year, you heard that list and out of it you were like, you know, I do some of it or there's something that I said that it's something you want to do more of, then I just invite you.
How, how awesome would that be? If you just grew your happiness or made a conscious choice to engage in one of those activities more often than you are now, that would be cultivating you into being a happier person. I'm, I'm really just going to summarize this into three steps. And the first one is to choose joy.
If you want to be a happier person, I want you to know that it is a choice, that happiness is not, doesn't come from anything outside of us. We're not happy because we have a certain amount [00:13:00] of items or a certain amount of money in the bank or certain amount of friends. Our joy and our happiness comes from what we choose to think about all the things that we have that are going on in our life.
And so I want to invite you to just Just choose it, embrace it, make it a conscious choice and, and if it's a conscious choice to align yourself with God's rhythm, then for sure you are going to cultivate more happiness.
And if you're someone who just really, at this moment, listening to this recognizes that you are not already feeling joyful then the next step is to actively move towards joy and I gave you 10 examples of some actions that you could do but it will be essential for you to move towards and create space in your time and energy right now to add these activities to your life because [00:14:00] when we're not in God's rhythm then we might be feeling overwhelmed, we will feel distant from our purpose and if that's you, then we want to move towards joy.
We want to choose it and then take action towards it, which that will mean if we're aligning with God's rhythm, we're prioritizing daily prayer, we're dedicating time to engage in those activities that bring you genuine happiness, and you're going to seek opportunities. To be kind to yourself and others and be of service and that that will really shift your focus towards joy and bring you closer to, to happiness and just find that rhythm in your mom life.
Motherhood can be a whirlwind, but it is possible to infuse your routines with harmony and [00:15:00] purpose. Even those daily mundane tasks, there can be a harmony and purpose and rhythm to them that is joyful because when you're not in harmony with God's rhythm, your daily life is going to feel chaotic. It's going to feel disconnected and finding this rhythm in your mom life means that you're creating daily rituals that include those moments of reflection and prayer or scripture reading.
And it'll involve you establishing maybe a family schedule that would allow for the quality time that maybe you're not having right now. It definitely will involve some individual self care. And as well as engaging in activities that resonate with you and your values. And that, to your definition, bring you joy.
So, by finding that rhythm in your mom life that reflects God's rhythm too, you are going to [00:16:00] be experiencing greater happiness and fulfillment. And so that is what I want to invite you that could be the how to you becoming a happier person today. All right, everyone. Again, not sure when you're going to listen to this, but I do want to wish you a Happy New Year.
I hope it's a year of possibility and change and transformation and fulfillment and happiness and holiness. And if there's anything that you want to talk to me about, about making this the best year ever for you, one that's full of happiness, full of good health, mental and emotional health, and to be more holy, I am happy to talk with you and it would be my great honor to be of service.
