You are listening to Episode 194 of the Peaceful Mind Podcast.
Welcome to the Peaceful Mind Podcast, a place for creating the peace of mind you need to be the best mom you were created by God to be. If you want to bring more balance, more joy, and more peace to your motherhood, this is the place for you. I'm your host, certified life coach and Catholic mom, Danielle Thienel
in the name of the Father, Of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, let's get started.
Hey, dear Mamas and listeners, I'm Danielle, and I'm grateful that you've joined me today. This episode today shines a light on overwhelming moments and how we can turn our God given power that is found in our brains And our pattern thinking to find serenity and peace among the winding paths that we find in this busy mom life so that we can get more easily out of overwhelm and back on track to being the effective mom that we want to be and to living a more joyful and balanced life.
So today what I'm offering is seven peace infusing thoughts to overcome overwhelm. We're going to be focusing on the sentences in our mind, which are our thinking, our thoughts. We have thousands of them in our minds a day. And some of them we don't really have much awareness about. They're more subconscious thoughts and others.
Are ones that we are deliberately choosing to think and even those aren't always the best for us. They're not serving, but if the more awareness that we have, the more the more clarity you have with the fact that what you choose to think. On a daily basis and then when you think that thought over and over again, it becomes our beliefs and our belief system is the number one thing that impacts the results that you create in your life.
That is why my focus as a coach is. To really get at the cause, the internal cause of what is going on in your life in regards to what you're thinking and feeling and doing and not doing. And when we deliberately choose something like wanting to feel peace instead of feeling overwhelmed, the answer to that, the remedy to that is to put more awareness into.
What is going on in your brain, what you're choosing to think. And so today I want to give you seven thoughts that when you think them will help you to feel more peace and therefore take you out of the feeling of overwhelm. And I want to just say that these thoughts that I'm going to give you They are rooted in scripture.
And when I first came to this work, obviously I was already a Catholic mom before I became coaching and got all of this like awareness about what was going on in my mind and my brain and how my thinking and thought patterns really affected my life. I would say prayers. And read the Bible and now I've seen that when I'm reading or when I hear a scripture that what they are, it's filled with sentences with phrases and that my friends is also what our You're welcome.
Bye. Bye. Thoughts are like the definition of a thought that we have is like just a few words put together to form a sentence or phrase and then we, in our minds, quote, say it to ourselves, or we just, we think it, and then that thought that we think over and over becomes a belief. So our scriptures are really just a whole bunch of sentences, and so they are my.
favorite kind of thoughts to think because of how I feel the feelings that are produced when I take my mind and focus on to those particular sentences. So it shouldn't come as a surprise to you that the seven thoughts to think to infuse more peace in your life and to overcome overwhelm are rooted in scripture.
So let's start with. Number one out of the seven that I want to give you to overcome your overwhelm because let's just face it, overwhelm is a common visitor in our lives, mamas. But these thoughts, and if you think them and apply them and practice them day after day after day, they will guide you towards more peace.
And a couple of them, if you're a longtime listener, will not be a surprise because they have been mentioned in previous podcasts before. I feel like that there was one that was maybe called three verses to beat defeat. And there's another one that is just alluding me right now that even somebody recently reached out to me and said that that podcast was super helpful.
And I think that I mentioned these a couple of these as well. So here we go, because it never hurts to get Be reminded that these phrases and sentences that just so happen to be aligned with scripture to are the ones that I want you to use to have more peace of mind in your life. The first one is I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
This come, this thought comes from Philippians 4 13 and let me just use this first one to show you. Yes. Yes, that is. A scripture verse, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, but notice that it's also just a group of words strung together to create what we have defined here as humans as a sentence.
Okay, and notice how that sentence is also a thought when I say it to myself, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and we know that we're faced with challenges big. And I'm always telling you that I want you to remember that you're not alone. So this thought infuses peace because it has you taking your mind to Christ and visualizing that you can call on his strength and gain a resilience to overcome anything that comes your way when you Think this thought it feels good, right?
I used to actually say this one when I was on stage When I had a performance and my usually my mind would be all over the place, you know With with things that make me feel nervous and I would focus my brain on this thought I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me and I immediately had the nerves settle and nowadays when I want to feel peace If I'm about to do something Kind of you know, a little scary or I think that's going to be a little hard.
I take this thought. And I know that I, that, that I can immediately feel better. So here's just an example, a scenario. Just picture this. Let's just say you're trying to balance remote work tasks while you're also assisting your child with online school and then the wifi crashes and then you have, you have some deadlines loom looming and in this moment you might feel stress, but if you can.
Remember this phrase and think it, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, even when it comes to tech issues, right? And I can calm a frustrated child and I can manage deadlines. Like you might be able to move faster in, out of the stress of it all. If you were to take your mind. To the thought, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Okay, the second peace infusing thought to help you overcome overwhelm is If God is for me, who can be against me? Now this is kind of a question and I do tell my clients in some of the exercises we do, we want to be careful when we when we ask ourselves questions, it can kind of keep us stuck in this loop.
And I always am telling my clients to go ahead and answer them. So in this case, if we turn this question into a thought. So the question is, if God is for me, who can be against me? I love to think the thought that it doesn't matter what I'm up against right now because I've got God in my corner.
Scripture is derived or this thought that I'm wording for you is derived from Romans 8 31 and it just reminds us of the divine support that we have every day and when doubts or adversities creep in, I want you to know that with God on your side, there is no challenge that's insurmountable. If you're at a parent teacher conference and let's say you go in there and all of a sudden you're met with some unexpected feedback about your child, immediately, and I'm taking this from my own personal scenario, I'm remembering back in some days where I get this like really tight, you know, constricting feeling like, oh no, and then doubt and worry like set in immediately, this would be a perfect time to draw on This piece infusing thought if God is for me who can be against me or I am up against this challenge right now But I know God's in my corner.
So everything will be okay with my child and it's just a reminder That with him by your side you can face these unexpected challenges even In parenting, and I would say not just even in parenting, mostly in parenting. The third peace infusing thought you can think is, if I ask, then I know I will receive.
And this thought is a reflection of Matthew 7, 7, ask and it shall be given you. In moment of need. I don't hesitate to turn to this one because I know, because I've been told by this scripture that if I ask for help, if I in that moment need peace and ask for peace or calm or clarity. Help then I know if I'm asking, I will receive because this thought comes from a promise that we've been given through scripture, and I know that while the answer might not be immediate or the one I even am expecting or even want, I still am just strong and rooted in that he will always provide.
So I feel peaceful. So if I ask for help in using this thought, if I ask him, then I will receive. And so then I take that action of asking and then I immediately feel a little bit more calmer and more peace because I know that he's heard me and will answer me. So let's just say you're financially stretched this month.
You're unsure of how you'll manage certain expenses. You can then use this one to pray for guidance or a solution. And whether it's an unexpected discount that arises, a helping hand from a friend, or a new perspective on budgeting, remember that God often answers your prayers in unexpected ways, but that He does answer them.
Okay, the fourth thought to infuse peace, to overcome overwhelm, is I am coming to you with this burden so I can rest. This thought is inspired by Matthew 11 28 that says, come to me all you who labor and are burdened and I will give you rest. So I like to think sometimes like, okay, I can't handle this right now.
This is a little bit too much and so I'm coming to you right now and I'm handing you this burden. I'm putting this at your feet so that I can rest. And this is what you've also told me to do. You told me to come to you who are burdened and you'll give me rest. So that is why this thought, I'm coming to you with this burden so I can rest is so helpful.
We want to hand over our troubles to the Lord because when we're weary, we can find comfort in knowing that he offers us a solace and rest. End. Let's kind of like take a little scenario. Let's just say after a day filled with toddler tantrums, a house that's maybe in disarray, or you like were so busy you had to skip dinner and you're feeling utterly drained.
This is the moment to mentally lay your burdens before him, asking for strength and rejuvenation. Number five of seven peace infusing thoughts is That I like to say and gives me just really a calm nature to what's ever going on or whatever decisions I have to make mostly is when I think, you see my future Lord.
So whatever you see fit, I know will be best. Sometimes I say it in a way that's like, you see my future Lord. So please guide me to pick what's best for that. So this thought resonates with Jeremiah 29, 11. Which is for I know the plans I have for you and I want to be showing up trusting in the divine plan not my own plans and I know that as much as we try as mom moms to to Control and layout and predict our futures.
We really just never know what today will bring Let alone tomorrow. And so I always want to know that there's only one who does, has every day already laid out for me. And I just feel so much more peace when I say just according to your will, whatever you see best, because you know my future. And from there.
I I feel like one that I'm working those trust muscles. And so let's say you're grappling with whether you're going to work outside the home or stay at home with the kids and the future is uncertain, like you feel uncertain about it. In this crossroads moment, you can lean into your faith at that time, trusting that God's plan for your future is purposeful and for the best, and you can feel more peaceful when you say.
You see my future Lord, whatever you see fit is best and go ahead and choose knowing that you've asked for that. Okay, number six, we're going through these pretty fast. Number six is this too shall pass. Now, though this exact phrase isn't like totally laid out in the Bible as scripture, it reflects the essence of Many scriptures, when it talks about trials, tribulations and joys and how they all come and go, we can use this to shall pass to bring on peace to us, knowing that we can take heart that life is cyclical, right?
It there's seasons to it. And with God's grace, that difficult times will pass. All of you who are listening to this now have probably lived long enough to, to see how this is true, right? To see how when we were in the midst of something super difficult labor, for one, right, where it did eventually pass when we were at a low point.
Like then it led us and then we were, we, we eventually got to a high point. And so remembering when you're in the midst of something difficult and challenging and you want to infuse some peace immediately, this thought, this way to direct your mind, to point your brain, to purposely think the thought, this too shall pass, can give you So this semblance of peace.
We know, let's just think about the scenario with our babies, right? Your baby has been waking up every hour at night and you are sleep deprived. You wonder if this phase is going to ever end. And when you're in the midst of it, sometimes you think it's not. You're just like, this is how it's always going to be, right?
But while While we know logically in the moment, we know logically it'll pass in the moment, I know we don't, so we just need a moment's peace and it can be as simple as thinking this too shall pass and again, just like our past hurdles, the sleepless phase will transition into something new, right? Okay, the last one, the seventh peace infusing thought to think to overcome overwhelm that I have chosen to give to you today is, please make my crooked path straight.
I say this one every morning and it kind of echoes Isaiah 45. 2 that says, I will go before you and level the mountains. So when you're feeling lost or unsure, ask God to clear the way. Trust in his guidance to steer you right. I, I kind of think this in my, my to do lists or the things that I have planned out for myself.
Well, if you listen to me long enough, you know that I like a to done list. That's another way to really use your thoughts about what you have to get done in a way that. You know, uses our brain that's going to help us and serve us a lot. But I know that at the beginning of the day, we, we do, we kind of like have this little forward looking at all we have to do.
And I know that I want to, that I want to at first start my day asking him to make my crooked path straight or to think that knowing that there was, if there's some obstacles that he's already removing them. So. Like, for example, if you're feeling overwhelmed with your kids, like, conflicting schedules, you're having to be over across town and so many things and not sure if it, you know, you can pick one up without letting the other one wait and you're feeling like you're zig zagging.
This thought serves as Yes, it serves as a prayer, but again, I want to show you that that's what prayer is. It's directing your mind and on purpose, thinking sentences and phrases that when you think them create this feeling that you want. And in this one, it's just asking for clarity and direction amidst the chaos that can be our busy mom life.
So please make my crooked path straight. A great thought that I want to offer you and invite you to try on and see how it will work for you. If it makes you feel you know, a little bit more confident that you will have that happen for you, that the crooked path straightens out. Okay. So here is a, just a rundown of the seven thoughts.
One more time before we, I leave you for the day. Number one is I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. If God is for me, who can be against me? If I ask, then I will receive. I am coming to you with this burden so I can rest. You see my future, Lord, so whatever you see fit is best. This too shall pass, and please make my crooked path straight.
Each of these thoughts that happen to be rooted in Scripture can be a beacon to you when you are just in those. Challenging, turbulent times as a busy mom, and whenever you feel overwhelmed, I encourage you as much as possible to pause and consciously choose what you want to think about it all. And if you can recall this message I have for you today.
Any one, like you don't have to use all seven, just take one and let that be one that you practice drawing on over and over, the one that most resonates with you. And you can draw peace from them because your brain is that powerful. What you choose to think will then create how you feel, and then how you feel will drive how you act and show up in your mom life.
So that's why we want to think thoughts that bring us more positive feelings, including calm and peace and confident and in control and assured and certain. So then from there. We will be showing up as the most effective mom and you will have done that because you will have infused your, your mind with peace and you'll have more peace of mind and really just all in all scripture and the word of God is a timeless source of comfort.
in any form or fashion. Okay, mamas, that's what I have for you this week. I can't wait to see you back here again, and I just want to wish you the best week and say, peace be with you always.
