in the name of the father of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Let's get started.
Hi everyone and welcome. Happy Spring. This episode is released on the first day of Spring. If it doesn't feel like spring where you are, I hope you are staying. and for those of us who are in areas where we are kind of seeing a little bit of blooms on the landscaping, I'm hoping that you are getting excited about this time of year and the newness and the freshness that it brings.
I want to bring a new, fresh perspective to your mind today. I want to inject some peace into your life and motherhood, and so I think I've picked a very important topic that I coach on with my mama clients, and I hope that. , if you consider this being something that you struggle with, that you will bring that to a free call with me.
I always love to connect with my listeners out there and if there's a particular episode that really strikes a chord, it might be that calling, right? That inner voice to say, I wanna see how I can be helped through life coaching this way. So today's episode, we are going to be talking about imposter.
Specifically in the context of our motherhood. I know so many of you experience feelings of self-doubt and you feel inadequate a lot of the time, and you're wondering, am I a good enough mother? And you want to pursue your dreams and goals, but these questions of self-doubt arise. And that is why I titled the episode.
Who Am I? because this is that, that question that I can find plays like a record player over and over again In some mom's minds, when they do wanna pursue their own dreams and goals, or they're just not quite, you know, feeling ready to take on something new and challenging, and they ask this question, who am I?
Who am I to fill in the blank? Who am I to go after? X, Y, and Z. Well, I want to discuss the impact of this doubt, of this imposter syndrome, and I wanna provide you with some strategies to help you overcome these feelings so you can realize that you are the perfect person to go after these dreams and goals.
So first, let's just dive in a little bit about imposter syndrome. . It's a common experience where you find yourself doubting your abilities and you feel like a fraud or that you don't belong. Can you think of where that has happened in your life or is currently happening where you feel like a fraud or you don't belong?
In our mom life imposter syndrome can manifest of feelings of not being good enough. Like I mentioned before, when. Compare and see our other mom friends on social media. We might feel like we're not measuring up to them and just overall feeling like a failure. As a parent, that often comes and goes throughout our motherhood journey.
And what this leads to is negative self-talk. It leads to feeling anxious and even depression if we. That unanswered question of who am I to? And then that over and over again when you don't answer it, yes, it can even lead to depression. So where does imposter syndrome manifest in your mom life? I want you to take your mind there and think about that.
Do you have a situation where, what I've mentioned so far, kind of like hit a. , just bring that up to the surface. And when you're thinking about it, what are some common triggers for you that bring on imposter syndrome? Is it when you take on a big project at work? Is it when somebody asks you to step up in school or church to do so?
Do you have imposter syndrome? When you think about a big goal or dream that you have about, I don't know, being on Broadway dancing or taking up guitar lessons, or maybe you wanna write a book or maybe you wanna totally change careers, do you feel a bit of imposter syndrome? Because you are asking this question, who am I to do that?
Who am I to go after that big thing? Well, I want you to flip that. . The best way to combat it is to say, why not me? Why not me? When you think of whoever it is right now who you kind of admire and look up to or think that they've made a great impact in the world and and is doing something fantastic for humanity, or something that's just like fun and adventurous and you think, oh, I could never do.
Well, guess what? That person might have also thought that they couldn't, but they didn't let that stop them. Or they also just believed, you know, I'm an ordinary person, but I can do extraordinary things with God by my side. So they just had to take the next step in the next, and before you know it, they were there.
They had to at some point say, why not me? Where there had to have been something within. That said, I think that I can do this. And so it's important for us moms to recognize and acknowledge our feelings of doubt, but we must take steps to overcome this imposter syndrome. We want to challenge the negative self-talk that will come up for sure, because when they rise, we need to practice reframing those thoughts in a more positive.
we wanna celebrate the accomplishments that you have already done in your life. Think about some big things that you've already done that, that before you did them, you thought, oh, I'm not sure. I don't know if, if I can do this, if that's something that's supposed to be for me, but then you did it anyway.
We want to call on those times to give us some encouragement and courage. To go after the next thing. Where have you built confidence before when you didn't have it? And how can this next goal or dream be the same? Be the same that you can achieve it to? I also encourage you to connect with other moms who have gone through similar experiences and seek the guidance, right?
Seek the guidance of a coach. I right now am. Going through I have a health coach that is helping me lift weights and get more muscle mass. And I am also working with you know, a team that's helping me get my book out there in the world. I could not do it on my own. I connect with other people who know what I don't know, and that can help me fill in the gaps and to give me support and encouragement.
That's definitely how we overcome imposter syndrome is to talk with other people who have achieved what we wanna achieve and know that, that they at one point probably doubted their abilities too, but they can help you show that they're just another normal human being who didn't have anything extra special.
They weren't born with an extra you know, part of their DNA that makes them amazing at that particular subject, perhaps. That could be that way for you too. And of course you know that I always wanna help you mama's embrace imperfection, that it doesn't have to look perfect on the way to going after things, that we recognize no one's perfect and that we will make mistakes and we'll fumble.
But it's just a natural part of the learning process. So if you are currently feeling like there's something you wanna go after, but you feel like an posture, Then just embrace imperfection, right? That's the strategy that has worked brilliantly for me as I build this coaching business and create courses and put out published books, all of these things, I promise you I would ask that question before.
Who am I? And now I can see, I just need to flip it. Why not me? . I would like to encourage you all that if you are experiencing imposter syndrome that know that you're not alone. I just gave you the example where I used to think it, but the reality is, is I still think it right now. I do, even as I'm seeing the projects that I'm working on come together and soon being able to put author behind my name and as I gather and do more speaking engagements.
There is a part of me that is like, who am I to get on this stage and talk to all these people? And then I can always come back to that, why not me? But I also know that I believe in myself and I practice self-compassion when I mess up or when things don't turn out the way that I hope they would be. And as I take steps to overcome imposter syndrome.
I then feel a little bit more confident and empowered each time and when we are in the role of mom and pursuing our own dreams and goals. We just wanna be aware that this syndrome exists and that we can overcome it. Now what I really want to drive home on this episode today is actually what I know will combat imposter syndrome and win every time, and that is to make I am statements.
This is the number one tool to fight against imposter syndrome and I know you have been been made aware of I am statements. and I have come up with 10, 10 IM statements that will help you whenever you are becoming full of self-doubt of your abilities to take on bigger, more challenging things that sound fun.
Just anything that you dream of accomplishing in this life on. No matter how old you are, how many kids you have, where you were born, these I am statements will fill you up with a mentality to combat imposter syndrome every time. So I'm going to state the one through 10 I and maybe consider writing them down or replaying back the episode and having them in a.
That you can then draw on them when you are feeling like a fraud or you're failing, or that there's something that's kind of really exciting for you to do, but you are just scared and afraid and you're asking yourself, who am I to do that? Well, this is who you are. Number one, I am a beloved child of God, created in his image and likeness number.
I am blessed with unique gifts and talents that can be used to serve God and others. Number three, I am capable of accomplishing great things through God's grace and guidance. Number four, I am worthy of love and respect both from others and from myself. Number five, I am not defined by my mistakes or failure.
But by my willingness to learn and grow. Number six, I am called to be a light in the world to share God's love and compassion with those around me. Number seven, I am not alone in my struggles or challenges. God is always with me and ready to help me. Number eight, I am deserving of self-care and. So that I can better serve God and my family.
Number nine, I am a part of a supportive community of mothers who can encourage and uplift each other. Number 10, I am filled with hope and joy knowing that God has a plan for my life and that he will guide me on my journey. These 10 Im statements. are the way that you combat that question. Who am I to dot, dot dot?
Or who am I to fill in the blank? Basically saying, who am I to take on changing the world, impacting lives? They will help you know exactly who you are. And that first one, I am a child of God, is really all. Ever need to call on, but I hope that all 10 give you that sense of encouragement, empowerment to go after any of your goals and dreams.
And I hope that this episode builds some confidence and I hope it, it has you trusting a little bit more in your ability to do great things with God's help. As always, I want to serve as a reminder of your worthiness and value as a beloved child of God to go after anything you want.
